Eindhoven, April 6, 2026 - Scholt Energy, an independent energy partner for the business market, appoints Martijn van Lieshout as its new CEO. The Eindhoven native will take over from Rob van Gennip, who has led the company since 2017.
Van Lieshout brings over 20 years of experience from the technology sector, where he was responsible for the commercial organization at Mendix as Senior Vice President and Managing Director EMEA.
With his arrival, Scholt Energy is taking the next step in its international growth strategy, backed by his experience in scaling commercial organizations. In doing so, it also reinforces its ambition to help organizations gain strategic advantage in an increasingly complex energy market.
Scholt Energy as strategic partner in volatile market
Van Lieshout's appointment comes at a time when energy prices are fluctuating sharply and geopolitical developments continue to influence the market. It is precisely in this context that Scholt Energy distinguishes itself with a distinctive market model. From an independent position, the company supports both customers in energy procurement and sustainability and producers in marketing their production.
“Many organisations are struggling with the volatility in the energy market,” says Van Lieshout. “What appeals to me about Scholt Energy is that we help customers maintain control over that uncertainty.” Scholt Energy combines market knowledge, technology and a personalised approach, enabling customers to procure or trade in a phased and data-driven manner and achieve greater stability in their costs.

“Whilst some companies are facing sharp rises in energy costs, we are seeing that customers who follow our strategy are experiencing far less of an impact. This confirms that our model works, not just in calm market conditions, but precisely when it matters most.”

Strong foundation and clear growth path
Scholt Energy has developed in recent years into a leading player in the business energy market, with operations in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria. In addition to business energy supply, the company continues to build on its sustainable solutions offering, including (C)PPAs and flexibility services. In 2025, the company realized sales of more than €2 billion and a customer satisfaction rating (NPS) of +40, underlining the strength of the organization.
For Rob van Gennip, the decision to part ways was not easy:
"Martijn is strongly committed to understanding the business, quickly grasped Scholt Energy's DNA and will strengthen the company with his positive mindset and broad expertise."
According to Van Lieshout, Scholt Energy's strength lies in the combination of expertise, technology and culture. "What I find here is an organization with a strong team that wants to make a difference for customers every day. That energy, combined with a personal approach and subject matter expertise, makes Scholt Energy unique in the market."
For the coming years, he is committed to further international growth and innovation:
"The energy market continues to move structurally. My ambition with Scholt Energy is to help many more organizations deploy business energy strategically. We will further strengthen our position in existing markets and enter new markets where our proposition is just as relevant."
Investing in technology and integrated energy solutions
"The future of energy goes beyond gas and electricity," says Van Lieshout. "It's about the smart combination of sources such as solar, wind and energy storage. By coupling technology with personal advice, we make that complexity manageable and create maximum value for our customers."
