Xidoor combines its own energy generation with CPPA via Scholt Energy.

Door and window frame manufacturer Xidoor is taking impressive steps toward a more sustainable future thanks to a long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with GLP through Scholt Energy. The agreement stipulates that Xidoor will purchase energy from the solar installation at a GLP Europe distribution center in Oss for fifteen years. In addition, Xidoor benefits from solar energy generated on its own sites. Both solar roofs were realized by Ecorus.

A CPPA allows companies to purchase renewable energy not generated on their own premises for a longer period of time. The agreement assures both the buyer and the producer of a wind or solar farm of a fixed price for renewable electricity, providing security and stability. It also encourages the construction of wind and solar farms. A CPPA represents the most far-reaching form of sustainable electricity purchase and sale and contributes significantly to the energy transition.

Power solar installations
With this CPPA, Xidoor commits to purchasing the entire solar production from the rooftop installation in Oss. The production amounts to 2.5 million kWh per year and the commitment is made at a fixed, more stable price compared to the purchase and sale of power on the daily market. With the solar panels on its own roofs, Xidoor also produces another approximately 2.5 million kWh of renewable energy. Together, the solar installations preserve about 40% of the total energy consumption of Berkvens and Svendex (two locations of Xidoor). In addition, through the CPPA, Xidoor anticipates the risk of price fluctuations in the market, allowing them to better predict energy costs.

Joining forces
In 2020, solar installation developer Ecorus provided several of Xidoor's rooftops with 6,000 solar panels. These installations enabled the company to meet much of its energy needs.

John Dortants, CFO Xidoor: "With rising energy prices, we also wanted to rely on the power of the sun for the rest of our energy needs. A CPPA turned out to be the ideal way to do that.'

Logistics property developer GLP Europe had a substantial roof area on a distribution center in Oss. This roof was also fitted with solar panels by Ecorus. Scholt Energy linked Xidoor and GLP via a CPPA, allowing Xidoor to also benefit from the energy generated by the solar installation on the roof of the building in Oss.

Xidoor's vision for the future
This cooperation is a big step, which fits with Xidoor's vision for the future. Dennis Gouka, CEO Xidoor: 'It is a commitment that clearly goes beyond a temporary trend or a short-term solution. This not only shows that we are environmentally aware, it also fits in with our strategic vision for the coming years.' By fully committing to solar energy, Xidoor is showing its foresight into the future of energy. The next step for Xidoor is a possible participation in a wind farm project together with Scholt Energy, in order to make the total energy consumption more sustainable and use renewable energy as efficiently as possible.

Role of Scholt Energy
Scholt Energy has been the trusted energy supplier of gas and electricity for Xidoor for many years. Through close cooperation with solar installer Ecorus, Scholt Energy has taken a key position in Xidoor's sustainability issue and has linked GLP to it. As energy supplier, we purchase GLP's green power and sell the Guarantees of Origin (GOs) to the Xidoor companies. We also handle the entire financial and administrative settlement of the connection between the parties involved.
As an energy specialist, Scholt Energy has years of experience in the field of sustainability and (sustainable) energy procurement. Scholt Energy is currently facilitating twelve different CPPA projects in the Netherlands. This links 58 different customers directly to twelve different wind and solar farms.

'What is special about this collaboration is that we are linking the specialties of four parties. Ecorus specializes in the project development of solar energy. Our expertise is precisely in making solar power accessible to end customers as a 'Balance Responsible Party' (BRP). We jointly decided to set up the CPPA, which underlines the long-term trust of all parties in this construction.
