Scholt Energy and Attero sign PPA for multiple solar parks

Written by Marketing | 29 November 2024

Solar parks on former landfills
Attero is constructing solar parks on former landfills. A solar park with 56,174 panels has been built in Wijster, Drenthe, on the former VAM (Vuil Afvoer Maatschappij) mountain, which is 48 meters high. Enclosed parts of landfills are not suitable for agricultural use and lend themselves perfectly to sustainable energy generation through solar parks. Since July 2024, the park has been supplying electricity to the grid.

In the municipality of Roerdalen in Limburg, a solar park with over 30,000 solar panels is being built on the former landfill site.

Certainty in price and duration
Scholt Energy and Attero have signed a two-year agreement for both solar parks in which the electricity generated will be delivered to Scholt Energy customers through a CPPA. After this, the SDE++ Outperformer will be applied for three years. With the SDE++ Outperformer scheme, the producer, Attero, is always guaranteed a pre-agreed minimum price. In addition, the producer receives an annual bonus. In exchange for the bonus, Scholt Energy is allowed to shut down the solar farm to stabilize the power grid when this has no adverse financial impact on all parties. Through the combination of the CPPA and the SDE Outperformer, the purchase of the generated solar energy is guaranteed for five years. This assures Attero of a fixed (minimum) price during this period.

What is a Power Purchase Agreement?
A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is an agreement between a producer of renewable energy, such as a wind and/or solar farm, and energy supplier. This agreement often states how much electricity is involved, its origin, the agreed electricity price, who bears what risks and the duration of the agreement. The big advantage is that this gives the producer a stable source of income.

Role of Scholt Energy
Business energy partner Scholt Energy handles the entire financial and administrative handling of the connection between the parties involved. A Balancing Responsible Party (BRP) is required in order to link purchasing companies. Scholt Energy is a BRP and handles the purchase and sale of electricity on the various energy markets on a daily basis, both for producers and customers.

About Attero and Scholt Energy

For more than 90 years, Attero has been a leader in Dutch waste processing. With 800 enthusiastic employees at 18 locations, we process 3.6 million tons of waste into raw materials and energy every year. We maximize the potential of waste by turning it into raw materials and renewable energy. For example, we turn vegetable, fruit and garden (VGF) waste into green gas and compost. We remove plastic, metal and beverage cartons from waste and sort and recycle them into new raw materials. We separate packaging waste from residual waste to make heat, electricity, green gas and building materials from the remainder. Attero also extracts and produces green gas from methane from landfills. We cover landfills that are no longer in use and further develop them for alternative purposes such as recreation and sustainable energy generation. Attero contributes to the circular economy, energy transition and we help combat climate change.
